About Us

Our Story

All major world faiths require welcoming and caring for the stranger, alien, and needy with love and compassion. Many persons of faith are alarmed and distressed by the increasingly inhumane and unjust treatment of immigrants at the border and in our communities. Out of this background, Ames Sanctuary Interfaith Partners was formed in 2019 to join together with those moved by their faith and by a desire for active support and engagement with immigrants in need.

ASIP Goals

Ames Sanctuary Interfaith Partners (ASIP) is a 501 (c)(3) (tax deductible) organization organized exclusively for charitable, service and advocacy purposes. The goals of ASIP are:
To support needs of people who are undocumented and/or asylum seeking immigrants, and their families, who have decided not to seek physical sanctuary.
To inform faith congregations and the broader community about the characteristics, importance, and widespread misinformation relating to the activities of the sanctuary movement.
To encourage the establishment of, and support to, any and all congregations in Ames declaring the offering of physical sanctuary to people who are undocumented and/or asylum seeking immigrants.
To inform faith congregations and the broader community about the characteristics, importance, and widespread misinformation relating to people who are immigrants in general, and their families, who are undocumented and asylum seeking.
Members of Ames Sanctuary Interfaith Partners are individuals or members of any faith congregation whose beliefs require them “to do something” to address the acute needs of undocumented and asylum-seeking immigrants in line with goals established by ASIP. All are invited to participate in the monthly meetings.
